Cedar order

I have a fairly good cedar order to fill 36- 4"/8" -12' . 18 same size 8' and a few 10' 4x4's so been logging the last few days. Have a good pile of logs at the mill now but wanted yo get this dead cedar down as well. Had to fall 5 dead birch that were rotten at the top and dangerous out of the way first then clean up and burn all the limbs and parts that were punky. As you can see by the one on the left the top limbs were pretty far gone and you don't want them landing on your head.

Built a trail in so I could get the backhoe in a position to help since it was leaning the wrong way & didn't want it hung up as the trees are fairly thick here.

Behind the hoe is a very large cedar 3' at the butt so i didn't want the tree heading that way.

Got lucky mostly limbed here fed the fire then finished limbing.

It's been raining all day every day snow on the mts. and just above freezing but I havn't noticed the cold . Also some where in the mess I made is my cell phone sec. one I've lost in the last 3 wks. Hop you enjoyed the pics.

Looks like lots of snags to deal with.  Would you like me to call your phone so you can find it?smiley  Thanks for posting.  Always interesting to see what you're up to.

Thank you for the comments fellas. I tried calling the cell phone but it goes straight to answering machine so I may have ran over it or it fell in the fire no big loss except for contacts an old $20 flip phone.

A few years ago I was working a field with a heavy disk and lost my phone. It only took four calls to find it under 4" of dirt, not a scratch...

Bill, it's always a treat to see  your pics of the northern woods and how neat you leave them when you log. This summer all of the ash trees died and I've been busy cutting and dragging them up close to the barn where I can get to them after the ground gets too  soft. What a shame, after dropping over 40 trees, most of them over 30" at the butt, there's not much left in the woods . Looks like a twister went through.

I've been working like a dog trying to get as much done before I have to go In for another surgery on Dec 12. This time it's only six inches of my colon, my appendix, and a small spot on a kidney. I'm running out of spare parts they can take out. The list is crazy- spleen, 1/2 liver, 1/2 pancreas, 1 foot of colon, gallbladder. The doc said this surgery will be a lot easier to recover from than the first two. My recovery plan is to start with cutting all the ash firewood before I try cutting any on the mill. I put the surgery off for two months so I could get as much done before the ground gets too soft. The weather really cooperated, we haven't had any rain for over 60 days and the ground is still firm and dry. Usually by Nov it's too wet to drag out trees.

Wayne it's sure sad to hear about your Ashe trees especially ones that size. Good about the phone though. Was at a friends and he told me he lost his phone a day or so earlier so i asked him his no. and dialed it not 5' from us a mud puddle started bubbling he reached down and pulled out his phone and it still worked. surprise

We've had the wettest year I can remember  nothing but rain for the last 2 mons. mud every where but it held off the last 2 days hopefully a few more days so I can work dry .

Sure does sound like your running out of parts will be thinking of you and wishing you the best with a speedy recovery. You've certainly had a lot on your plate to deal with makes my ailments rather trivial. I'm happy to hear at least the weather is co-operating for you.

I got home today after a week in the hospital. This was the easiest by far of the three , 49 staples and the pain has been only a 2 out of 10. Didn't even use any pain meds other than Tylenol. The surgeon said all the margins were clean so I should be good for a couple years.

Can't wait to get back to work on the mill shed and get set so I can saw a big order of walnut and cherry. Since I can't do much for a few days, I 'll post some photos.
